Laure Porter
April 30th, 2025

oneATELIER is pleased to announce our next visit to the studio of Paris-based American artist Laura Porter, located in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Laura Porter’s installations, sculptures, and videos are marked by an interest in the modes of value production, the genesis of materials, and the role of the body in “edible” or “disposable” economies. The transformations of materials—such as seeds, coupons, and coins—are recurring themes in her work.

Laura Porter’s installations appear frozen in time, either as the end of something—an unfinished situation that will remain so—or the beginning of something new. She is not only fascinated by the materiality of objects but also by their genesis—by what made them become what they are. As we know, surplus plays a crucial role in vast economic and geopolitical issues, but they also carry a strong symbolic dimension. As Mary Douglas wrote, "Where there is waste, there is a system."—Excerpt (translated from French) Monique Jeudi Ballini, 2017

Since 2015, Laura Porter has also collaborated with artist Valentin Lewandowski on a series of video installations. Their video works reflect shared interests in the mimicry of objects, and gestures.

During this visit, we will have the opportunity to share insights into Laura’s two ongoing multimedia collaborative works, which she would like to discuss with the group.
