oneATELIER is delighted to announce our final studio visit of 2024 on Monday, Decemebr 16th, featuring artist Jaga Jankowska Cappigny. This visit will take place at her exhibition space and studio in _MODEST_E, (IGOR studios, 15-27 rue Moussorgski 75018 ) where her solo show En cercle (In Circle) is currently on display, seamlessly extending through the gallery and her working studio.
Jaga’s making process begins with photographs sourced from various origins: images found online, from her own or other photo archives, or commissioned from other photographers. From this starting point, she embarks on a digital transformation process in which the images are altered until they become barely recognizable.
Jaga experiments with the interweaving of images, screen-printing them onto various materials such as canvas, paper, fine fabrics, or wood. She enjoys mixing techniques, combining screen printing, painting, drawing, engraving, and transfer methods. This transformative process results in works where the familiar and unfamiliar coexist, and memory intertwines with the present.
The artist often works in series. One of her notable series is inspired by the fringe, urban landscapes of Paris, where her studio is located. This series awakened childhood memories and led her to explore her family's photographic archives from 1980s Poland, where she grew up. Through these images, the artist rediscovers the suburbs of her childhood, revisiting them through the lens of her personal history and the urban and social development of these areas. Her works reflect on time and memory. By deconstructing and reconstructing fragments of reality, she creates pieces that invite deep contemplation and a continuous rediscovery of the image.
During the studio visit, Jaga looks forward to discussing her exhibition, her general artistic practice, and strategies for advancing her career, as she describes herself as a “late bloomer.”

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Jaga Jankowska Cappigny holds a degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and later pursued advanced studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Additionally, she was awarded a French Government Grant to further her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy.
Initially establishing herself as an art director, graphic designer, and illustrator in the cultural sector, Jaga made the pivotal decision in early 2019 to dedicate herself fully to contemporary art.
The artist regularly conducts screen-printing workshops for adults and children. Occasionally, she acts as a curator, notably for _MODEST_E, a hybrid exhibition program in Paris's 18th arrondissement, and at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Her work has been exhibited in several Parisian venues since 2019 (Cité Internationale des Arts, 6B, Espace Voltaire, among others). In 2025, she will present the Pocztówki project in Geneva, created in collaboration with artist Justyna Kosińska/Tkanka and the Grafit Gallery.
